 Process & Guidelines

Downtown Books in Dothan, AL, welcomes authors to host book signings to connect with readers and promote their work. Book signings take place on Fridays or Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

What Downtown Books Provides:

  • A table and chair for the author to use during the event.
  • Promotion through Downtown Books’ social media channels, in line with other store promotions.
  • Sales processing through Downtown Books' point-of-sale (POS) system.

Revenue Share & Book Sales (Author Provided Books):

  • All book sales will be processed through Downtown Books' POS system.
  • The author will receive 60% of the retail price of each book sold.
  • Downtown Books will retain 40% as a consignment fee.
  • Payment to the author will be issued following standard store accounting procedures.

Author’s Responsibilities:

  • Promote the event to their audience through their own social media, website, newsletters, or other marketing channels.
  • Bring an adequate number of books to the event.
  • Engage with attendees and help create an enjoyable experience for customers.

Promotional Guidelines:

  • Authors are encouraged to promote their book signing event.
  • Any posts, flyers, or advertisements featuring Downtown Books' logo or likeness must be approved by Downtown Books staff at least 48 hours before publication.
  • To submit materials for approval, please email Downtown Books staff at stacy@downtownbooksdothan.com with the content and expected posting date.

How to Schedule a Book Signing:

  1. Contact Downtown Books to inquire about available dates.
  2. Confirm event details and provide book information.
  3. Coordinate promotional efforts with Downtown Books.
  4. Arrive 30 minutes before the event for setup.
  5. Enjoy your book signing!
