Author Book Submission & Sales at Downtown Books
Downtown Books in Dothan, AL, welcomes local and independent authors to have their books considered for sale in our store. Below are the steps and guidelines for submitting a book for review and potential retail placement.
Submission Process:
- Drop Off a Review Copy
- Authors must provide one physical copy of their book to Downtown Books for evaluation.
- Books should be dropped off at the store during business hours.
- Complete the Online Submission Form
- Authors must fill out the following form: Author Book Submission Form
- The form collects necessary details about the book, including title, genre, MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price), and availability.
- Book Review Process
- The Downtown Books team will review the submission and notify the author of a decision.
- Approval time may vary based on store priorities and inventory needs.
Initial Stock & Sales Process:
- If approved, the author will provide three copies of the book at no charge to assess demand.
- If the book sells well, Downtown Books will continue stocking the book as follows:
- Traditionally Published Books: Downtown Books will source additional copies directly from the publisher or distributor.
- Self-Published Books: Downtown Books will purchase books directly from the author at 50% of the MSRP, ordering as needed.
General Guidelines:
- Books must be professionally bound and edited.
- Cover designs should be high quality and appropriate for retail display.
- Downtown Books reserves the right to decline any book based on content, quality, or store fit.

- Await a response from our team.
- If approved, provide three books at no charge for initial testing.
